Concertino for Clarinet and Strings (Piano Reduction) by Alan Ridout

Concertino for Clarinet and Strings (Piano Reduction) by Alan Ridout. Emerson Edition, 1978, SS, 7 + 3 pages. Alan Ridout (1934-1996) was an English composer who showed a strong interest in composing at an early age. He completed six years of professional music study at age 20 with Gordon Jacob and Herbert Howells as his last teachers. This short and enjoyable concertino has energetic first and last (in 5/8 and 6/8) movements with a beautiful slow movement in between. At the marked tempos this is probably an early college level work. The duration at the written tempo is about 6:30. Cranking up the tempo of the first movement as on the recording (from a marked 92 to about 126) increases the energy. Duration about 5 minutes at the faster tempo. (C1037)
