Hartley (1927-2016) studied at the Eastman School of Music, receiving his Ph.D. in composition in 1953. He has about 200 published works including many for saxophone. Dedicated to Don Sinta and the Ithaca College Concert Band this piece has three movements: Adagio/Allegro molto feroce/Adagio, Andante (in 7/8), and Allegro scherzando. The third movement has a cadenza. There is some optional high altissimo in each movement. Advanced college level. About 12 minutes in duration.
