Fantaisie for Clarinet and Piano by Philippe Gaubert

Fantaisie for Clarinet and Piano by Philippe Gaubert. Heugel, SS, 13 + 4 pages. Gaubert, a flutist, conductor, and composer wrote this piece for the Paris Conservatoire contest of 1911 and dedicated it to his friend, colleague, and the incumbent clarinet professor Prospère Mimart. The piece alternates between Lent (in six) and Allegro, then accelerates at the end with Très vif followed by Poco Vivace. This is regarded as one of the more difficult contest pieces. (C0521)
