First Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Francoise Devienne edited by Jean-Pierre Dautel and revised by Jacques Lancelot. Editions Musicales Transatlantiques, 1962, SS, 18 + 8 pages. Devienne, Francois (1759-1803) was a flutist and bassoonist, and professor at the Paris Conservatory. In three movements: Allegro con spiritoso (C), Adagio (2/4) and Rondo allegretto (6/8). Professor Heim wrote that the solo part is scored principally in the upper two registers and is florid with ornamentation figures making this work more difficult. The Adagio is played with one beat to the measure and has many fast notes while the Rondo has a Mozartian flavor. This is good material for college and professional recitals. (C0642)
