The Album & Instrumentation
This specific instrumentation offers a highly unique, dark, and rich timbral reimagining of Bach's counterpoint. In a traditional Baroque trio sonata, two upper voices weave independent melodies above a driving bass line. By using two soprano clarinets and a bass clarinet, the trio seamlessly covers the necessary registers while lending the pieces a warm, vocal quality quite distinct from the original organ pipes or traditional string/flute interpretations.
The three sonatas covered in this collection include:
Trio Sonata No. 2 in C minor, BWV 526
Trio Sonata No. 3 in D minor, BWV 527
Trio Sonata No. 4 in E minor, BWV 528 [1, 2]
The album sheet music and adaptations are published and distributed under specialized woodwind labels like Woodwindiana Editions, which is curated by Howard Klug himself.
