Potpourri Op. 80 for clarinet and piano by Louis (Ludwig) Spohr

Potpourri Op. 80 for clarinet and piano by Louis (Ludwig) Spohr edited by John Newhill. Musica Rara, 1996, SS, 15 + 8 pages. The full name of this piece is Potpourri for clarinet on Themes of Winter and it was first performed by Johann Simon Hermstedt in 1811. The form of the Potpourri is the stand one for shorter solo works of the period - a slow introduction, followed by a theme and variations, concluding with a finale loosely based on the theme. Spohr used two melodies from Peter von Winter's opera Das unterbrochene Opferfest. The original was with orchestra with this edition based on what is believed to be Spohr's arrangement for clarinet and piano. A showpiece. (C0489)
