Quintet for Clarinet and Strings by Gordon Jacob. Music Sales America, 1946, SS, (parts only). In four movements: I. Moderato, II. Scherzo (Allegro con brio), III. Rhapsody (Poco lento), and IV. Introduction, Theme and Variations (Poco lento) . There are five variations in the final movement. This piece was written in 1940 and first performed by Frederick Thurston and the Griller Quartet in 1943.This piece should be considered one highlight of Jacob's compositions, and as a scholar wrote, "is of major significance in its contribution to the chamber music repertoire for clarinet and strings."
