Sonatine for Bassoon and Piano by Alexandre Tansman. Eschig, 1952, SS, 10 + 4 pages. Alexandre Tansman (1897-1986) was born in Poland, but after studying music and law there, move to Paris where he spent most of his life (except for the World War II period in Los Angeles). His music is primarily neoclassical, drawing on his Polish and Jewish heritage as well as his French musical influences. In three movements: I. Allegro con moto, II Aria (Largo cantabile), and III. Scherzo (Presto). The piece is considered a classic of the bassoon repertoire. College level with a duration of about 9 minutes.
