Egon Wellesz (1885-1974) was an Austrian composer, teacher and musicologist, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg and an eminent scholar of Byzantine music. He immigrated to Britain in 1938 remained there the rest of his life. The Suite is in four movements: I. Rhapsody (Tempo rubato), II. Serenade (Molto tranquillo), III. Scherzo (Vivace), and IV.
