Woodshedding (practice makes...) Solo Clarinet (E-flat, B-flat, and A) by William Holab

Woodshedding (practice makes...) Solo Clarinet (E-flat, B-flat, and A) by William Holab. C.F. Peters Corp., 1988, SS, 6 pages. This is a performance piece with which was written for Alan R. Kay and is based on the composer's fantasies about what might happen during a "typical" practice session. It includes extensive directions and requires a portable metronome, a tube to extend the low range, and a cheap plastic clarinet. Includes multiphonics, flutter tonguing and many other effects and contemporary notation. It will take a skilled performer to play this as the composer intended. The middle portion simulates practicing a variety of types of music, with the clarinetist becoming very frustrated by the end. (C1925)
