Ballabile con Variazioni nel ballo Ettore Fieramosca for E-flat Clarinet and Piano by Giacomo Panizza edited by Colin Bradbury. Lazarus Edition, 2000, SS, 18 + 4 pages. Giacomo Panizza (1804-1860) was conductor at La Scala during the last thirteen years of Ernesto Cavallini's time there as principal clarinet. He composed two operas and thirteen ballets for Milan, several times exploiting his brilliant first clarinetist with solos like this. The Ballabile con Variazioni (variation being here meant in the balletic rather than the musical sense) comes from Act III: a festa di ballo set in a magnificent banqueting hall. This was first performed in 1837. (C1131)
