Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012) was an English composer renowned for his film scores and his jazz performance as much as for his challenging concert works. He was based in York City from 1979 until his death in 2012. Shirley Horn (1934-2005) was an American jazz singer and pianist. This is an attractive college level piece with a duration of about 7 minutes. It opens Lento expressivo and about half way moves to a mostly 5/8 section (A tempo, poco rubato) before returning to 4/4 (Come prima, tranquillo) for the final section of the piece. (C1914)
