Capriccio for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano by Claude Arrieu

Capriccio for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano by Claude Arrieu. Amphion, 1971, SS, 9 + 4 pages. Claude Arrieu (1903-1990) was a prolific French composer who enjoyed a long and successful career. This piece was written for the Concours de Conservatoire National Supérior de Paris of 1971. It is an appropriately challenging piece that begins Lento which after a few measures evolves into a cadenza. A brief piano transition leads to the Scherzando section which is in mixed meter (5/8, 9/8, 6/8 etc.). Slow and fast sections (without the mixed meter) alternate to the end of the piece. (C1112)
