Dante Dances (Danzi D'Inferno) for Clarinet and Piano by Dan Welcher. Elkan-Vogel, 2000, SS, 33 + 13. Dan Welcher (1948-) is an American composer and conductor who has written music for many genres. This was written for Bradley Wong as a virtuoso piece for clarinet and piano and the composer was inspired to "go to the devil." It began in the form of an introduction, theme and variations which became a suite of dances, with each dance named for a character in Dante's journey through the underworld. Movements: Introduction: Gates of Hell, Tango (for Charon), Charleston (for Cerberus), Polka (for the Furies), Gymnopédie (for Paolo & Francesca), Schottishe (for Ulysses), and Tarantella (for Gianni Schinni). The duration is (appropriately) 13 minutes. (C1460)
