Eternal Garden Four Songs for Clarinet and Piano by David Maslanka
Eternal Garden Four Songs for Clarinet and Piano by David Maslanka. Maslanka Press, 2009, SB/SS, 26 + 7 pages. The composer writes, "After some reflection I can say that this music is about the need to stop and simply to be; to stop thinking, stop planning, stop worrying, stop presuming to know how we are supposed to act in the world. . . This music is about the transformation of suffering. . . " The four songs are: I. Lamentation; II. On Chestnut Hill; III. Elegy: August 6, 1945; and IV. Eternal Garden. Much of the clarinet part is sustained notes in the lower register while the piano has the moving part. Early college level with a duration of about 27 minutes. (C1967)
