Fantasy-Sonata for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano by John Ireland

Fantasy-Sonata for Clarinet in B-flat and Piano by John Ireland. Boosey & Hawkes, 1945, SS, 22 + 7 pages. Dedicated to Frederick Thurston. Prof. Heim wrote that this is very poetic music, steeped in late romantic period style but with modernistic, and somewhat impressionistic, approach. While a one movement work, it has six major sections with contrasting tempos. It is both very beautiful music and a great challenge for both performers. While advanced college level students can handle this work, it would be most successful on professional recitals. (C0517)
