Enesco is regarded as one of the greatest musicians in Romanian history; he was a composer, violinist, pianist, conductor, and teacher. He wrote two rhapsodies in 1901 and they were premiered together in 1903. They employ elements of lăutărească music (Roma), vivid Romanian rhythms, and an air of spontaneity.
