First Roumanian Rhapsody B-flat Clarinet and Piano by Georges Enesco transcribed by Eric Simon. Bourne Co., 1969, SS, 40 + 13 pages. Georges Enesco (1881-1955) was a Romanian musician. Enesco is regarded as one of the greatest musicians in Romanian history; he was a composer, violinist, pianist, conductor, and teacher. He wrote two rhapsodies in 1901 and they were premiered together in 1903. They employ elements of lăutărească music (Roma), vivid Romanian rhythms, and an air of spontaneity. This piece is upper (US) grade 4 or lower grade 5. (C2725)
