Five Angels for Clarinet and Piano by Peter Przystaniak

Five Angels for Clarinet and Piano by Peter Przystaniak. Henry Litolff's Verlag/C.F. Peters, 2011, SS, 20 + 8 pages plus CD. Peter Przystaniak (1956-) is a German pianist, composer, arranger, and gospel choir director. This is a five movement work with the character of a suite although each movement may be played by itself. The five compositions combine Latin American styles and Jazz harmonies with elements from film and gospel music. The slower movements (II and IV) are easier to play. The movements are: I. Gabriel - Purity of God (Allegro energico), II. Haniel - Grace of God (Andante con moto e spirito), III. Mikael - Like unto God (Allegro risoluto), IV. Raphael - God's healing power (Adagio con anima), and V. Kamael - Might of God (Allegro deciso). There are optional violin and cello parts to expand this piece to a quartet. The CD has recordings of the work with and without the clarinet part for both the piano only and expanded versions. Early college level with a duration of 11:30. (C1880)
