Prelude and Scherzo by David Bennett

Prelude and Scherzo by David Bennett. Carl Fischer, 1939, includes parts and score. I was surprised to receive this as a new issue as it has been in my clarinet quartet book for more than 20 years. Apparently it was out of print for a while. For four B-flat clarinets although a bass clarinet could be used on the fourth part. This piece is typical of Bennett's writing as the Prelude has alternating slow (sometimes rhapsodic) and fast sections followed by the Scherzo. Here is a video of this piece being played by a university quartet. (C2594)
