S mo lamh air a stiuir for Clarinet Quartet folksong arranged by Frank Reinshagen. Advance Music, 2004, SS, includes parts and score. For three B-flat clarinets and bass clarinet but with an alternate part for alto clarinet replacing the third B-flat clarinet. There are two optional low Ds in the bass clarinet part. The literal translation of the title is "And my hands on a [the] wheel," also known as the Skye Steersman's Song. It is from the Isle of Skye in the Hebrides Islands. Writing these arrangements, Frank Reinshagen has created little masterpieces, which broaden the rhythmical and harmonic context of the original tunes in an interesting manner without detracting from their archaic and melancholic character. This piece should be played paying careful attention to dynamics and phrasing, which reflect the up-and-down motion of the stormy Arctic Ocean. Better high school quartets and up (C2217)
