Second Sonate in B major for Clarinet in A and Piano Op. 139b by Sigfrid Karg-Elert

Second Sonate in B major for Clarinet in A and Piano Op. 139b by Sigfrid Karg-Elert. Zimmermann, 1965, SS, 27 + 7 pages. The piece is in two extended movements: Ziemlich bewegt and Sehr rasch, mit íœbermut. Each movement has several sections. There are many markings of style and tempo, mostly in German. The piano part is technically and rhythmically difficult (especially written in B major key), with many added accidentals. While the clarinet part is conservative in range is it virtuosic in content. The rhythm in both parts is complicated, requiring the ensemble to be exact for a good performance. There is a wonderful chamber music relationship between the clarinet and piano. This is an advanced work for the best players. (Description from Clarinet Literature in Outline by Dr. Norman Heim.) (C0547)
