Shichifukujin (The 7 Gods of Luck) for Clarinet Quartet by Masato Tajino. Metropolis Music, 1997, SS, (includes parts and score). For 3 B-flat clarinets (doubling E-flat clarinet in the first clarinet part on the last two movements) and bass clarinet. The title refers to the seven gods of good fortune in Japanese mythology and folklore. They are presented in the following order in this piece: 1. Ebisu, god of fishers or merchants; 2. Hotei, the fat and happy god of abundance and good health; 3. Daikokuten, god of wealth, commerce and trade; 4. Benzaiten, goddess of knowledge, art and beauty, especially music; 5. Fukurokuju, god of happiness, wealth and longevity; 6. Jurojin, god of longevity; and 7. Bishamonten, god of warriors. College level (C1582)
