Shiva Dances Op. 171 for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Piano by Michael Kibbe

Shiva Dances Op. 171 for Clarinet, Bass Clarinet and Piano by Michael Kibbe. Woodwindiana, 2008, SB/SS, 34 + 9 + 9 pages (piano score and parts). A challenging work of three movements (plus two interludes), this 13½ minute, US grade 5+ piece uses the programmatic notion of the Hindu god Shiva in this unusual instrumental combination. Contains a great deal of dance-like, rhythmic interplay with a tip of the compositional hat to the rhythm and scale constructions of Olivier Messiaen. Three movements: I. Dance of Creation, Interlude (bass clarinet alone), II. Dance of Joy, Interlude (piano alone), and III. Dance of Destruction. (C1959)
