Sonata in One Movement for Clarinet and Piano by Alexander Tcherepnin

Sonata in One Movement for Clarinet and Piano by Alexander Tcherepnin. Schott, 1980, SS, 11 + 4 pages. Alexander Tcherepnin (1899-1977) was a Russian composer who lived and worked in France and the United States as a pianist, composer and music educator. This piece was written in 1939. It has three tempos and a few changes of meter. While this is a twentieth century work, the style is strongly influenced by the late French romantic period and is reminiscent of the Poulenc Sonata but is less demanding on both performers. An excellent recital piece for good undergraduate clarinetists. (C0257)
