Sonate Op. 28 for Clarinet in A and Piano by Mieczyslaw Weinberg. Peer Music, 2005, SS, 31 + 12 pages. Weinberg (1919-1996) whose name has also been written Moisei Samuilovich Vainberg (and quite a few other ways) was born in Poland but lived in the Soviet Union/Russia from 1939 on. Both his Jewish roots and his close friendship with Shostakovich are said to have influenced his music. The clarinet sonata was written in 1945. It is in three movements: 1. Allegro, II. Allegretto, and III. Adagio. This is an advanced/professional work with a duration of nearly 19 minutes. (C0820)
