Tango for Clarinet and Piano by Carlos Gardel arranged by Bela Kovacs. EditionDarok, 2017, SS, 6 + 2 pages. The actual title of this piece is Por una Cabesa although that isn't printed anywhere on this version. Carlos Gardel (1890-1935), who grew up in Argentina, was a singer, songwriter and actor, and is one of the most prominent figures in the history of tango. This piece was written in 1935, refers to the Spanish horse-racing phrase meaning "by a head", which refers to a horse winning a race by the length of one head. The lyrics speak of a compulsive horse-track gambler who compares his addiction to horses with his attraction to women. This edition begins with a molto rubato cadenza before getting into the melody which is Tempo di Habenera. (C2548)
