Carlo Della Giacoma (1858-1929) was an Italian clarinetist, composer and conductor of musical groups. This work was written in 1900 when he was a member of a military band. It is a mixture of ornamental variation, paraphrase and potpourri. Various themes from the opera Tosca are used including the famous clarinet solo that precedes the aria "E lucevan le stelle."
