Toward the Light for Clarinet and Piano by Simon A. Sargon. Commissioned by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in honor of principal clarinetist Gregory Raden. In four movements: I. Sustained, II. Brightly, III. Serenely, and IV. Lightly. Some mixed meter, especially in the second movement. Tempos are given throughout (they change frequently). The "light" in the title refers both to personal enlightenment as well as the dance implication of the term "trip the light fantastic." The four movements carry the listener through four contrasting moods, culminating in the lightness and joy of dance. (C1288)
