Variations on a German Folksong for Basset Horn and Piano by Alois Beerhalter edited by Hans Rudolf Stalder

Variations on a German Folksong for Basset Horn and Piano by Alois Beerhalter edited by Hans Rudolf Stalder. Edition Kneusslin/Edition Kunzelmann, 1980, SS, 14 + 6 pages. Alois Beerhalter (1800-1852) was a German musician who learned many instruments to support himself before finally turning to the clarinet and then the basset horn around 1828. This piece has a substantial Andante cantabile introduction, the Theme, five variations, and an Allegro vivo finale. Almost no altissimo but the bottom three octave range of the basset horn is fully exploited. (C1805)
